Vennela Kishore

Vennela Kishore is an Indian actor, comedian, and occasional director who works primarily in Telugu cinema. Born Bokkala Kishore Kumar on September 19, 1980, in Kamareddy, in present-day Telangana, he became widely known by the screen name Vennela Kishore after his debut film Vennela. Public biographical accounts describe him as having studied in Hyderabad before moving to the United States, where he earned a master's degree from Ferris State University in Michigan and worked as a software engineer before entering films.

Kishore's film career began with Deva Katta's Vennela in 2005. The film not only introduced him to Telugu audiences but also gave him the nickname that became his professional identity. His timing, expressive reactions, and ability to support a scene without overwhelming the lead performers made him a frequent choice for comedy roles as Telugu cinema moved through a period of rapid commercial expansion and genre blending.

Over time, Kishore became one of the industry's most recognizable comic actors. He appeared in films such as Bindaas, Pilla Zamindar, Daruvu, Baadshah, Doosukeltha, S/O Satyamurthy, Srimanthudu, Bale Bale Magadivoy, Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada, Ami Thumi, Chi La Sow, Goodachari, Geetha Govindam, Bheeshma, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, and many others. His roles often involve anxious friends, overconfident schemers, officious professionals, comic sidekicks, or characters who puncture melodrama with verbal and physical humor.

Kishore has also tried directing. He directed Vennela 1½ and Jaffa, both connected to the comic sensibility that had shaped his acting persona. After those films did not establish a sustained directing career, he returned primarily to acting, where his output remained prolific.
