Prithviraj Sukumaran is an Indian actor, director, producer, and playback singer known primarily for his work in Malayalam cinema. He was born on October 16, 1982, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, into a film family: his father Sukumaran and mother Mallika Sukumaran were both actors, and his brother Indrajith Sukumaran also became an actor. Prithviraj studied in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and briefly pursued higher education in Australia before entering films.
Prithviraj made his acting debut with Nandanam, released in 2002, and quickly became one of the most prominent younger actors in Malayalam cinema. After early films across romantic drama, action, and youth-oriented stories, he gained major momentum with Classmates, one of the defining Malayalam hits of 2006. The same year, his performance in Vaasthavam won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor, making him one of the youngest recipients of the honor. His 2000s work included Stop Violence, Swapnakoodu, Ananthabhadram, Chocolate, Thalappavu, Thirakkatha, Puthiya Mugham, and Robin Hood, showing a willingness to alternate commercial films with more performance-driven roles.
In the 2010s, Prithviraj broadened his career as both performer and producer. He co-produced and starred in Urumi and Indian Rupee, with Indian Rupee winning the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. He received further acclaim for Ayalum Njanum Thammil and Celluloid, and appeared in films such as Mumbai Police, Memories, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Ezra, Koode, Driving Licence, and Ayyappanum Koshiyum. He also worked outside Malayalam cinema, including Tamil and Hindi films, and played Varadharaja Mannar in the Telugu-language action film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire.
