Biography

Kanna Hashimoto is a Japanese actress and former singer whose career moved from local idol work in Fukuoka to mainstream film, television, and national entertainment. Born on February 3, 1999, in Fukuoka Prefecture, she entered show business as a child and signed with the local agency Active Hakata while still in elementary school. Her early work included commercials, local performance activity, and membership in the idol group Rev. from DVL, the Fukuoka-based successor to the dance-and-vocal unit DVL.

Hashimoto first attracted film attention with a small role in Hirokazu Kore-eda's I Wish, a 2011 drama whose child ensemble gave her an early connection to serious Japanese cinema. Her wider breakthrough, however, came through idol culture. A fan photograph taken during a 2013 Rev. from DVL performance circulated widely online and turned her into a national talking point. The image gave Hashimoto the nickname sometimes translated as a 'once-in-a-thousand-years' idol, but the more durable part of the story was how quickly she converted sudden attention into acting work.

Her starring film career accelerated in the mid-2010s. Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation, released in 2016, positioned her as a lead actress while also connecting to her music career through a single tied to the film. In 2017 she appeared in Haruta & Chika, Gintama, and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., showing a particular strength in live-action adaptations of manga and anime properties. These projects demanded broad comedy, stylized physical performance, and an ability to play heightened characters without losing mainstream accessibility.
