Strong, thoughtful work from Yao Wenyi
9.5/10 · Directing
What stood out to me about Malice (2025) was how Yao Wenyi handled the role. There is enough texture in the quieter beats to make the role feel lived in. It adds value without trying too hard to dominate the film. The choices are controlled without feeling mechanical, which makes the character easy to trust. What works best is the balance between restraint and clear emotional intention. Even in crowded scenes, the performance keeps a clean line through the story. My reaction is mainly about this specific film, not a judgement on the performer overall.
