Bryan Friday feels too thin here

What stood out to me about The Substitute (1996) was how Bryan Friday handled the role. The performance is functional, but it does not leave much after the scene ends. Several choices feel too broad for what the scene seems to require. I wanted more specificity, especially in the emotional transitions. The work never fully settles into the rhythm of the movie. It is not a careless performance, but it feels under-shaped. Different viewers may value it more, but for me the effect was limited.
