A useful but uneven turn from Maki Sakai
7/10 · Acting
I kept coming back to Maki Sakai's choices here, especially in the smaller beats. The choices are controlled without feeling mechanical, which makes the character easy to trust. What works best is the balance between restraint and clear emotional intention. Even in crowded scenes, the performance keeps a clean line through the story. There is enough texture in the quieter beats to make the role feel lived in. My reaction is mainly about this specific film, not a judgement on the performer overall.
