Lai Hoi Man never quite convinces
1.5/10 · Directing
What stood out to me about Merry-Christmas (2020) was how Lai Hoi Man handled the role. The work never fully settles into the rhythm of the movie. I wanted more specificity, especially in the emotional transitions. Several choices feel too broad for what the scene seems to require. It is not a careless performance, but it feels under-shaped. The performance is functional, but it does not leave much after the scene ends. My reaction is mainly about this specific film, not a judgement on the performer overall.
