Good instincts from Yudai Takahashi, mixed result

There is something pretty interesting about how Yudai Takahashi fits into The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006). I would not call it bad, just not as sharp as it could have been. Some scenes click, some just sit there. I like the idea of the performance more than the full result. It is solid enough, but there are moments where it feels a bit on autopilot. I can see someone else being kinder to it, but I did not fully get there.
