Laura Poitras never quite convinces

Looking just at Laura Poitras's work as Self, there is a clear point of view in the performance. It is not a careless performance, but it feels under-shaped. Several choices feel too broad for what the scene seems to require. I wanted more specificity, especially in the emotional transitions. The work never fully settles into the rhythm of the movie. The performance is functional, but it does not leave much after the scene ends. That overall aftertaste is what stayed with me after the credits.
