Keegan-Michael Key

Key has also built a large acting career outside sketch comedy. On television he appeared in Fargo, Parks and Recreation, Playing House, Friends from College, Reboot and Schmigadoon!, often bringing a comic energy that can tilt toward warmth, intensity or self-aware theatricality. He made his Broadway debut in Steve Martin's Meteor Shower and returned to classical stage work in Hamlet at the Public Theater, reflecting the training that predated his screen fame.

In film, Key has moved easily between live-action comedy, musical projects and animation. His credits include Horrible Bosses 2, Pitch Perfect 2, Don't Think Twice, Keanu, Dolemite Is My Name, The Prom and Wonka. As a voice actor he has been especially prolific, with roles in The Lego Movie, the Hotel Transylvania films, Storks, The Angry Birds Movie, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Wendell & Wild, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Migration, IF and Transformers One. His voice work often uses his ability to create heightened characters while keeping them emotionally legible.

Key's career is marked by breadth: sketch comedy, improv, scripted television, stage acting, hosting, musical comedy and animation. Although Key & Peele remains his signature project, he has continued to expand beyond the duo format, becoming a familiar presence in ensemble comedy and family entertainment. His formal theater background and improvisational speed have made him one of the most adaptable American comic performers of his generation.
