Biography

Zoey Deutch is an American actor and producer known for sharp comic timing, energetic lead performances, and a filmography that moves between studio comedy, independent drama, streaming features, and stage work. She was born Zoey Francis Chaya Thompson Deutch on November 10, 1994, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are director Howard Deutch and actor-director Lea Thompson, and her sister Madelyn Deutch is also an actor and writer. Deutch trained from childhood and attended arts-focused schools in Los Angeles before beginning professional screen work as a teenager.

Her first widely seen television roles came on The Suite Life on Deck, where she played Maya, and on the CW thriller Ringer. Those early parts placed her in very different registers: one broad Disney Channel comedy, the other a serialized mystery built around adult deception and danger. She moved into film with parts in Mayor Cupcake and Beautiful Creatures, then gained more attention through a run of lead and supporting roles that showed her range in youth-oriented drama and comedy.

Vampire Academy gave her a franchise-style starring role as Rose Hathaway, a quick, physical, sarcastic heroine whose personality depended as much on confidence as on fantasy-world mythology. Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!! placed her inside an ensemble built around loose, naturalistic comedy, and Deutch stood out by giving Beverly intelligence and ease without overplaying the period setting. These roles helped separate her from the idea of being merely a Hollywood-family newcomer; she developed a recognizable rhythm, especially in characters who talk fast because they are thinking fast.
