Nick Frost

Nick Frost is an English actor, comedian, writer and producer best known for his collaborations with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, especially the television series Spaced and the Three Flavours Cornetto film trilogy: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End. Born Nicholas John Frost in Hornchurch, Greater London, in 1972, he had an unconventional route into acting. Before fame he worked outside the entertainment industry, including as a waiter, and met Pegg while working at a Chiquito restaurant in north London. Their friendship and shared comic sensibility became the foundation of Frost's screen career.

Frost's first major role came in Spaced, the Channel 4 sitcom created by Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes and directed by Edgar Wright. Pegg and Hynes wrote the role of Mike Watt with Frost in mind, drawing partly on the lifestyle and humor of Pegg and Frost's own friendship. As Mike, Frost played a military-obsessed best friend whose deadpan intensity contrasted with the show's slacker culture and pop-culture surrealism. Spaced became a cult favorite and introduced the creative partnership that would define British screen comedy for the next decade.

The breakthrough to international film audiences came with Shaun of the Dead in 2004. Frost played Ed, the irresponsible but loyal best friend of Pegg's Shaun, in a film that fused romantic comedy, workplace frustration, friendship and zombie horror. His performance turned a potentially crude sidekick into a character whose comic laziness and emotional loyalty were both essential to the film. The success of Shaun of the Dead led to Hot Fuzz in 2007, where Frost played the enthusiastic village police officer Danny Butterman opposite Pegg's high-achieving Nicholas Angel. The trilogy concluded with The World's End in 2013, where Frost played Andy Knightley, a more wounded and serious figure whose anger and loyalty gave the film much of its emotional weight.
