**Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans: Their Relationship and Family Life**
Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans began their relationship while her public career was unraveling. They met in October 2017 at a rooftop charity event during San Francisco’s Fleet Week. Evans, whose family founded San Diego’s Evans Hotels, later recalled that he initially did not recognize the Theranos founder. Their first conversation lasted several hours, and she gave him a business card with her personal number. In his account, her curiosity and ability to listen made a lasting impression. 1
Their romance developed through friendship. For roughly six months, they spent time cooking together and hiking in the Santa Cruz mountains. Evans initially hesitated to become romantically involved because of the controversy surrounding Holmes. Nevertheless, they grew closer. In 2018, after attending Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour together, he proposed with a silver snake ring purchased at the concert—an unusual symbol of their commitment. 2
Although some earlier reports described a secret wedding, Holmes gave a different account in 2025: they had never officially married. She said marriage remained a possibility and described their commitment as extending beyond legal paperwork. Before entering prison, they bought rings on Amazon. More recent reporting continues to describe Evans as her partner or fiancé, so calling him her husband without qualification can be misleading. 3
The couple also built a family during Holmes’s criminal proceedings. Their son, William, was born in July 2021, shortly before her fraud trial began. Their daughter, Invicta, arrived in early 2023. Evans frequently appeared beside Holmes at court and wrote to the sentencing judge about their relationship. Parenthood became central to the private life they presented publicly, even as her conviction and impending imprisonment created uncertainty about their future together. 3
Before Holmes reported to prison, they lived with their children in Southern California. The documentary *You Can See Everything*, released in October 2026, follows the family during the 34 days before her imprisonment in 2023. Its footage shows domestic life at a rented Del Mar beach cottage, placing everyday parenting alongside the prospect of a long separation. Although released recently, the film portrays their life before prison rather than their present daily routine.
Holmes began serving her sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas on May 30, 2023. By the time of PEOPLE’s February 2025 prison interview, Evans and the children were visiting regularly. The reporting described brief embraces, hand-holding and time together in the visitation area. Holmes spoke about the pain of saying goodbye to her children. These visits offered family contact within the limits imposed by her imprisonment.
As of October 2026, reporting continues to identify Evans as Holmes’s partner and fiancé. He has remained publicly supportive, including through interviews about their relationship and the documentary. Their shared life continues under difficult circumstances: Evans parents outside prison while Holmes’s contact with their children depends on visits. Their public accounts describe an ongoing commitment, although a wedding date and detailed plans for their future have not been established.
